PhD position · Next-Generation EIA
Closed, filled PhD scholarship in Biodiversity, Evolution and Adaptation at the University of Trieste, co-funded with ELC Electroconsult. Gaia Foltran was selected to develop a mechanistic framework for environmental impact assessment.
The 42nd-cycle PhD position was advertised under the University of Trieste’s PhD Programme in Biodiversity, Evolution and Adaptation (BEA). Its official research title is “Next-Generation EIA: a Mechanistic Framework to Quantify Pressures, Ecological Responses, Outcomes and Offset Requirements”. EIA here means Environmental Impact Assessment.
The scholarship is a MUR/University award co-funded by the Department of Life Sciences using funds from ELC Electroconsult S.p.A. Prof. Giovanni Bacaro is the project’s scientific supervisor. The work aims to link anthropogenic pressures on ecosystems with quantifiable ecological responses and environmental outcomes, and to derive defensible biodiversity mitigation and offset requirements. The three-year PhD programme is scheduled to begin on 1 November 2026.
The first admission session ran from 22 April to 25 May 2026, followed by interviews in June and the publication of the first-session rankings in July. This specific scholarship has been filled and is no longer accepting applications.
Selection outcome: Gaia Foltran was selected for this position, as confirmed by Biodiversity Lab. Her profile describes her geospatial and environmental-assessment research. The University publishes official competition results using candidate identifiers rather than names; consult the official ranking page for the formal admission record.
Who is this for?
