TWAS–SISSA–Lincei 2026 · Prospective visiting researchers

We welcome eligible scientists from least developed countries to discuss a three-month research visit at the University of Trieste under the TWAS–SISSA–Lincei programme.

The 2026 TWAS–SISSA–Lincei Research Cooperation Visits Programme supports three-month collaborative research at eligible institutions in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Under the published 2026 rules, applicants must be nationals of a least developed country, hold a research position in an LDC and at least an MSc, and be no older than 40 on 31 December 2026. Researchers already in Italy at their intended host are ineligible. Hosting is conditional on scientific alignment and University procedures.

Biodiversity Lab has prior hosting experience through the programme, including the visit of Fredrick Ojija. Potential research subjects include plant-community ecology, biodiversity monitoring, remote sensing, GIS, functional diversity and restoration ecology.

Prospective applicants should contact the laboratory well before the TWAS deadline with an updated CV, concise project concept, proposed timing and a description of how their research aligns with our facilities. A positive preliminary discussion does not replace the formal application or guarantee a place or award.

Who is this for?

Eligible researchers from least developed countries, holding an MSc or higher degree and meeting the official TWAS conditions. Consult the current programme rules before applying.

How to get in touch

Email Giovanni Bacaro with your CV, a one-page research concept and preferred visiting dates; use the official TWAS programme portal for the formal submission by 31 October 2026.
