01 / PROJECT CONTEXT

Ecology inside infrastructure development.

The Tanahu Hydropower Project is located on the Seti River near Damauli, in Nepal’s Tanahu District. The associated environmental consultancy has involved long-term technical support for forest, watershed and biodiversity-related components of the project’s environmental-impact assessment and management activities.

Since 2020, Giovanni Bacaro has worked with ELC Electroconsult as an International Forest Expert and Biodiversity Expert, combining technical planning with repeated field missions and coordination of local experts. The work links environmental safeguards, forest and watershed management, mitigation and compensation, and discussions around biodiversity offsets.

03 / ON THE GROUND

Field evidence, local expertise.

Successive missions have connected environmental planning with observations on site, interviews and technical discussions. Coordination with local experts has been central to linking specialist plans with the landscape and its management needs.

The ongoing consultancy illustrates how applied ecological research expertise can contribute to international environmental-safeguard processes without conflating consultancy deliverables with independent research findings.

05 / APPLIED ECOLOGY

Scientific expertise beyond academia.

This project represents a long-running strand of international environmental consultancy at the intersection of ecology, forests, watersheds and biodiversity safeguards. The same expertise underpins research questions on vegetation, landscape change, environmental management and biodiversity assessment.
