Why WISE matters

Urban sustainability as a platform for European research excellence.

WISE builds on the Transform4Europe alliance and uses urban sustainability as a shared domain for connecting research, innovation and institutional development across Europe. The project combines scientific work with knowledge valorisation, FAIR data, Open Access, citizen science, researcher mobility and research-management reform.

Our role

Remote sensing of urban forests.

Giovanni Bacaro represents the University of Trieste in the WISE Steering Committee and is directly involved in Work Package 3.

Biodiversity Lab contributes remote-sensing approaches for analysing and monitoring urban forests, with the aim of providing quantitative evidence that can support local administrations in sustainable green-space planning and management.

The research will be developed through three European case studies – Trieste, Porto and Kaunas – allowing comparison across contrasting climatic, environmental and urban contexts and testing methods that can be transferred to other European cities.
